I have just acquired a 1949 Rudge Aero Clubman - complete and almost rideable but needs a lot of work. Dunlop alloy wheels, SA 4 Speed hub and all pretty original, paint faded from orange to a sort of maroon but original tranfers on. Under what I thought was rust, but turns out to be mostly oil and grease residue it seems quite good but I'd like to get the old lady looking as she did.

Lots of the small chrome parts like the light bracket and hub cable pulley have rusted. Does anyone know where small parts can be re-chromed? Are new/refurbished bits available anywhere? One quill pedal is bent and needs replacing, I assume it's a funny Raleigh thread size. Anyone able to confirm? Lastly, can you still get the white wide plastic mudguards these bikes were fitted with? Grateful for any ideas!

There are still lots of companies around who undertake plating, if you have a frame builder nearby you could ask who they use.

The mudguards are likely to have been made by Bluemells. I'm sure I've seen NOS (new old stock) somewhere recently, possibly eBay.
