this is my first post so here goes with a a few questions
The bike i am planning to use is 20 yrs old framed reynolds 531 c tubing.it had a full respray 10 yrs ago and has been stored inside since that time.
i will only be cyccling for weight loss and fittness but am very keen to make health improvements.
at that time i replaced all the components with shimano 105.
the wheels were upgraded with mavic cosmic elite ,s.
has a new 105 headset fitted and new bottom bracket fitted.

my most important question is do wheelbearings/botom bracket / headset need to be overhauled after a 10 year in storage/inside/ non use peroid.i believe the bearing units are sealed so hope no servicing is required

i have a carrerra gryphon i bought a few weeks ago that i go for a ride on each day before i put other bike into action.

looking forward to getting any information

You just need to change the bar tape as it seems to have gone mouldy - the rest should be fine.

You should be able to tell by giving the wheels a spin and if the headset is noise free and turns without any judders.

For the BB I would take both cranks off and try turning it by hand - if it is difficult to turn it needs servicing.

bearings

thanks for the reply everyone.
the bearings seem to be good .no free play in them and no grinding sounds, cant take a spin on it yet as tyres are perished and i have a new set arriving by courier on monday. i did take it down the road a few hundred metres and all seems to be fine , brakes and gear changing.there is a problem with the left sti lever, seems to be sticking .it will change up to the large chainwheel, but when you press the small down change lever it feels it is moving with no mechanical resistance/connection ?? it does release afer a good few presses. maybe the internals are dry and maybe need to be dismantled and greased or maybe a shot of wd40 into the lever would do ?

i have read that sometimes steel frames can rust from the inside out ?
i think though as my bike is always stored inside would this elimatate this possibility ? has been stored inside since respray in 1998 !!!! not through strong objection from my wife anyway !!!

i also need to get new pedals and i was looking at shimano 105 spds which i found online at good price.
are theese pedals hard to get out of, as i find the TIME pedals i have on the bike at moment are to much resistance to clip out off.

looking forward to any replies

I dobut your frame has rusted. If they do, it tends to be at the bottom bracket area. There is usually a drain hole under there at the lowest point - if there is, make sure it's not blocked.

I have a couple of steel bikes, and I have rinced the inside of the frame in that area with some automotive underseal stuff - Waxoyl - you just tip it down the seat tube, swish around, and leave upside down to drain off - job done.

The pedals you want are spd - sl of which there is a 105 version (and a few other similar ) and it does have adjustable retention strength. The price of the cleats is a bummer though - check out the Ribble prices for both pedal and cleat or look for an offer on eBay that includes the cleats.
