Is my old MTB which has been kept outside for 15 years worth restoring or shall I give it to the scrap men ?

Just throught it would be something to do now the warmer weather is coming.

you can give it a go but if it ends up not being cost effective scrap it

You need to assess what parts you need/want to replace and check how much it will cost. If you're a patient type, you'd be surprised what can turn up on ebay quite cheap.

The main issue is whether or not you can still get the bottom bracket out. If that's shot, but welded in with rust, it's scrap. You can get away with stuck seatposts and stems if they were in the right position for you when they got stuck. If it is a good frame worth keeping the best way is to get a complete secondhand donor bike for any bits you need. Much cheper than buying new or individually. Alternatively just throw yours away and use the donor bike!

Maybe a case of stripping, cleaning, greasing and refixing ??
Not sure what needs replacing - Prob Tyres, Brakes. Maybe it's a labour of love rather than cost effective ?!

All I can say is that if you want to, go ahead and don't let anyone stop you. I've taken on a few projects of questionable value in my time and enjoyed them all. What a boring world it would be if everyone only ever did what was sensible.

Well I'm riding a rigid Apollo Kaos (approx 20 years old) and have spend under £200 inc tyres and cables to get it to a state where I can ride it along routes that my mate rides on his £1.5K Scott. I say go for it

Full-sus MTB?
Use it as donor bike for all the bits you need on your restoration project. Then sell the frame on e-bay.
Use the proceeds to buy any parts that don't suit.... or put the money towards a road bike.

Anything you spend on a cheap full suspension bike is a waste. Porkypete has the right idea with the Puegeot, though. I have quite a soft spot for 80s Puegeots. But don't worry if it the bottom bracket is siezed so long as it works.
Have you got a photo of it?
