it's not so much being brave as being assertive.
London drivers are now very well used to cyclists weaving in and out of traffic.

It's not that big a deal, as traffic is slower moving and sometimes congested speeds in the centre of town aren't that high and drivers are aware of cyclists - quieter country lanes can be more challenging where cars do faster speeds.

I suppose it's a case of what you're used to though.

Not comparable (Dublin) but I actually found IME that congested traffic was more controlled & predictable than free running traffic and its easier to match their speed in congested situations. There's a point in between however, (the onset of congestion) where drivers are unpredictable as they try to avoid it !

+1 find on my route some places like Croydon are deadly wheres as London is close to a joy in some parts and drivers are well aware of us which is great.

A23 Lovely road full of angry and frustrated drivers going no where in a hurry.
always amazed at the sheer volume of cyclists who pass on the inside.
i think after a while you get used to heavily trafficked areas , everyone is moving around in close proximity and we seem to get along just fine.
whats a close pass in London might be seen as attempted murder in other places.

I don't really mind cycling into Croydon, not really had a problem.
I think what's a close pass in other places is just run of the mill in London. I see videos on here of people spluttering about a close pass where I think "I'd quite like that much space"

I drive most days in Central London. If it's not cyclists then it's motorbikes. We all get along fine 7am-7pm Monday - Friday . It's the weekend drivers that screw everything up

Been to London today and ate my buttes near the bike racks at Euston. Some proper bikes there. Not for show but proper bikes used for transport not hobbies. Quite invigorating. Also looked at some round Cavendish square. Good on you all

What's a "not proper" bike look like then? I use both my bikes for commuting depending on how I feel although the cost of replacing Lelly means that the Giant tends to commute more I'd still say both are proper bikes.

Zone 3 and inwards is fine. It's in the suburbs (particularly on a Friday afternoon - when there are dozens of hairy ars*d builders speeding their way home, so they can get down the pub and neck 6 pints of Stella before fighting) that you get the worst of it.
