Hi all.
Just looking for some advice.
I have a 4 year old nightvision jacket and it has just started to leak on the arms.what is the best cost effective way of re waterproofing the jacket.I have to say its been used every day throughout all seasons apart from summer(excluding this very wet one). And has only just started to leak.:rain:

I use it on my Montane and can get 2 applications out of the can.

I tried my 5yo Polaris jacket with the Nikwax wash-in stuff as I find the spray on proofing just enhances the boil in the bag'ness of these sort of coats. Not brilliant results to be honest but I think the jacket itself was past it more than the product not working (it's been good on newer stuff) & I've ended up retiring that one to the emergency back up peg.

Nikwax wash-in followed by Nikwax tech wash, the wash-in on it's own is no good if the jacket hasn't been re-proofed for a long time, been using it for years and it is the only one we have found to work.

You're right, just to clarify my previous, it was with the tech wash too, but I suspect that the jacket was beyond returning to 'as new' proofness. I can't complain its been worn to death and owes me nothing.

That's the one, got it the wrong way round though, Tech Wash first then Wash-in after, I should know as just done our jackets on Christmas Eve. I blame this wicked, evil alcoholic stuff we are forced to drink at this time of year . Now, what was the forecast again..........

Spray on worked well on mine, though I'm not sure the boil in the bagness could be made worse, not unless I entirely replaced my night vision with a pvc donkey jacket .

If you don't reproof a waterproof breathable jacket or shell for ages then when you finally come to do it, it will be too far gone as washing then re-proofing is only effective if the surface is not so worn the it cannot be "re-activated" by the re-proofer. If it is too worn, no chance and end of jacket. This is why it is best to clean and re-proof sooner than later.

I did my Montane Velo shell about 2 months ago with Nikwax Tech wash then the wash in proofer and it is better than new.
