Hi,

I have a Raleigh Stowaway 7 folding bike that recently developed a problem with the right pedal. The pedal began to wobble whilst cycling, which resulted in the thread on the crank becoming completely worn down meaning the pedal bolt no longer has any grip inside the socket. I should have replaced the pedal sooner but didn't so here I am!

I'm not a very knowledgable cyclist so need some help deciding how to fix the issue, preferably without paying an arm and a leg to have it fixed by a repair shop. I suspect I need a replacement chainring and right crank, which from what I understand come as one part, however I have no idea what kind to buy in terms of chain size, bottom bracket configuration etc! Ideally I'd just order a replacement from Raleigh but they don't seem to do them!

Thanks in advance.

You could get a helicol insert fitted to the existing crank.

If there are any threads left at all you could wrap the pedal thread with plumbers tape and screw it back in.

Otherwise you need a new chainset. Just make sure it has the correct number of teeth and correct fitting - probably square taper - they are all pretty generic.

thanks for the quick reply! Once I've got the new chain set is it just a case of removing the old one with a crank puller and putting the new one on?
