Replacing rack - threaded screw

Hello all,

I have bought a new rack for my commuter, which is a bit of a BSO/beater, probably why I have come across a problem getting the old rack off.

Basically, one side of it is fitted with an allen bolt which unscrewed easily, but the other is screwed in and the screw seems welded (with salt/road crap or something - it doesn't look rusty at all though) as well as being made of cheese so it's now totally threaded. I tried soaking it with oil to loosen it but it didn't help. How can I undo this? Would the LBS have a way to remove it? I hesitate to go there for small jobs as it'll probably end up costing about 30 quid  but if the only option is cutting it I'll probably have to as I don't have any way to do this.

Thanks!!

Use mole grips to undo it get them as tight as you can . It will kill the screw but at least it will be out.

give it a small shock with a hammer through your allen key. hit it directly in to the screw not at and angle that could loosen in before you attack it with mole grips, they should be you last resaught, imo that is. mike

If all else fails, drill it out and use a small nut and bolt with thin washers to fix your new rack on.
