My freehub has a rough patch once per revolution, so I think I need to change it.

I think I have all the tools I need, except cone spanners.
15mm is standard, right?

Is there a guide someone can reccomend? I guess with replacing the hub I won't need to re-true the wheel or anything like that.

I had a similar problem with a Secteur Elite. I searched for ways to service the hub and drew a blank so looked into a new hub. It would have cost about £35. However, both front and rear rims were quite well worn and I realised that I could buy a new set of Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels (including new freehub) for about £110. It seemed to make sense to get the new wheels.
I apologise for not answering your question. I'm just offering an alternative approach that may or may not suit you, depending on the state of your wheels.

So here's a question. If I don't currently own any cone spanners, how do I know what size I need to get?
The wheels are Shimano RS81.

You need a 5mm allen key/17mm cone spanner/10mm allen key depending on what you need to do, see page 25 on in this manual.

It is hard to tell from your post whether the bearing(s) and/or cone(s)/cup(s) are the issue and/or if it is the freehub. If the non-drive side cup is pitted the hub shell (or the hub) will have to be replaced.

Thanks.
Now feeling like I might just support my LBS with this job.

My evans cone spanners do 13, 14, 15 and 16mm, so one set covers nearly everything. http://m.evanscycles.com/products/fwe/13-16mm-cone-spanners-ec053181

I just serviced my Shimano hubs (although not RS81s) using those cone spanners, a small adjustable spanner and a 10mm allen key.

ETA: and a cassette locknut remover jobby.

If you want to diy you might want to read this, it is not that hard to find out what is wrong, which should give you an idea what the parts are going to cost.

You can get a 17mm cone spanner for £4 from ebay, and a set of allen keys including 10mm from many Pound shops. Using the 10mm allen key to remove the freehub will require a bit of welly though, a length of pipe for leverage will help.
