Had the Sirrus Sport 06 (commuter) over at the LBS to get the gears tuned and the mechanic said the rims on the rear wheel are thin and suggested that searhing for a replacement wheel would be worth thinking about.

At present the bike is fitted with AlexRims DA16 with an 8 speed SRAM cassette. The bike is used for commuting on rural roads and a liitle town riding (2x10miles) and I'm no lung on a stick (13 st 8 lbs)

Would someone be kind enough to suggest a replacement wheelset (low/mid range cost) or give me an idea of what kind of thing I should be searching fleabay for?

Thank you

What about getting them rebuilt into new rims? If the mechanic reckons the hubs are ok then that would leave you with an excellent set of hand built wheels.

Yep.

What size tyres are you using?

So obvious that I did not consider this, I know that DA16 rims at 700c are not made anymore but there has to be something to replace them with. Back the LBS for me.

Suggest Mavic CXP22 if you're running 23/25c tyres.
Strong, proper eyletted, thick braking area with wear indicator, easy-clean finish, good price.

I've got a very little used Planet X road rim in the garage if it's any use to you. Yours if you can pick it up/for the price of postage.
