I have bought many items from this guy and always had good service. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M5-X-20MM..._Material_Nails_Fixing_MJ&hash=item58ac7bd4e2

Screwfix do some as well, but you may have to buy bigger packs. Use grease or anti seize compound when you fit them.

ebay is good for this - go for one of the respectable sellers selling "A2 stainless" sets under engineering, or perhaps motorbikes. I replaced all the normal steel fasteners on my bike for stainless cap screws (ie allen head), particularly the derailleur adjusters which were cross-head made of cheese. For £20 or whatever you can get a lifetime's supply in mixed sizes in a little sorter-box

Stem bolts are safety critical, and seat clamp bolts to a lesser extent. If someone was swapping bottle cage bolts I wouldn't blink, but I'd be a bit careful of replacing safety critical bolts with stuff off Ebay.

To do the job properly, you should know what grade of carbon steel you are removing (e.g. 8.8) and choose a stainless fastener grade that is at least as strong.

This link gives you an idea of the large variation in strength that can be encountered between different grades of fasteners. Top table is carbon steel grades, bottom table is stainless steel grades.

Well .... I agree with the sentiment, but do bear in mind the "safety critical" stem bolts are steel into alloy. Whilst they are in a real sense safety critical, the crappiest of crappy steel, stainless or otherwise is still loads stronger than the alloy it's screwed into. And regarding ebay, if you buy from a pukka looking seller with thousands of trades to motorcycle restorers, chances are he's selling pukka stuff. i'd be buying something claimed as a2 if stainless, and 12-9 for high tensile non-stainless cap-screws - with the latter totally ott for anything bike related in any case. Of course, they may be mis-representing the rating - but remember, many original equipment fasteners on bikes appear to be made of cheese - so no need to over think it too much

stem bolts tend to be 14T - stainelss is at best around 8T so not as strong.

note that the weight weenies use Ti bolts that are simiplar in strenght to stainless and have survived.
