I have got an FSA Gossamer mid-compact chainset on my Specialised Tarmac road bike. I have left it too long replacing the chain so the large chainring is now pretty well worn and needs replacing.

I thought this would be a simple matter to find a new FSA 52t chainring, but it seems it is not that easy...

Can I just put any 110BCD 52t chainring on there, or do I need to put an FSA ring on? I don't think the standard Gossamer is the highest quality component but I would rather not replace the complete crankset, but if there was something going cheap then I would, it's BB30 by the way.

I replaced my FSA 52t ring last summer got it from wiggle. Took a while to come though IIRC but there wasn't an alternative supplier AFAIA.

I like FSA components (I have FSA bars, stem, seatpost) but have found their chainrings to be a liitle less than good. I'd go the Shimano route, maybe Ultegra? Stronglight, as mentioned above are decent chainrings. I see a lot of people complaining about FSA chainrings, maybe it's just a case of bad luck on their part. That said, I don't think Shimano do a 52t/110 BCD.

Thanks that's good info. I've just ordered a Stronglight 52t ring which is pretty good value at £20.
