I have just spent 15 minutes filling in a form to renew the wife's driving license, I clicked at the end to submit it, it came up with a payment box, its free to renew an over 70 license and it said this on the payment page, but underneath there was a £70 processing fee !
needless to say I didn't pay it.
I had Googled "renew licence over 70" and this page was the first that came up, it even had the colours of the Government page, anyway I found the correct page and renewed with no charge.
Just be careful these scam merchants are everywhere.

I have just renewed my licence as I got the reminder through the post as my 70th is in June. I put in the web address on the form and everything was fine. Filled it on Monday this week and new licence arrived yesterday Thursday.

Well spotted, sadly not just driving licences. It's about time these legalised scammers are stopped.

It's a tricky one. I had a similar experience renewing my licence recently

Some people value a bit of paid help to fill in forms, and, imo it would be harsh to prohibit that. There's a fine line between a bit of help and a website that may be misleading. I've learnt to start at the gov.uk website for all government things.

I agree with you, if someone wants to pay for help it's their decision, but this was rather expensive help IMO, plus I fail to see what help you would be paying for, I put all the same info into that site as I did on the official site, all they would have to do is re-enter the details on the official site.
The only difference I noted, other than eyesight questions there was no medical questions on the rogue site.

As a matter of interest, has your category D1 (mini-bus) and C1 (7.5 tonne) entitlement been removed?

I’m not sure I’ve had those entitlement. On another note we going to Italy in June over the period of my 70th and the holiday package included a hire car. However I am not allowed to drive it due to my age.

I believe they are automatically removed upon renewal at 70 now.

Just had a wee look on-line. You're right, C1/D1 entitlement is automatically removed when you renew your licence at age 70 (as you are required to do); but you can keep your C1/D1 as long as you complete the appropriate application form and undergo a medical examination. Which sounds fair enough.

Depending on which part of Italy, i.e Bay Of Naples/Pompeii area it'll be a blessing in disguise

Dot gov dot uk should be on the end of any DVLA webpage. Or any government website, for that matter. It's as well to check.
