I've just taken delivery of a hub geared commuter bike & want to change the rear tyre to M+.
I've tried searching & sheldon browns site but cant find any info
Is there anything I need to be aware of before removing wheel? Do I need to disconnect gears? It's a belt drive too if that makes any odds
TIA

Yep you need to disconenct the gear cable/cables, method depends on type of hub gear, belt drive should be the same as a chain for this purpose, though I read that correct tension of the belt is far more vital than with a chain.

cheers Macb I looked at it & thought it would need disconnecting. Doubt I'll have time tomorrow before work, so guess I'll be driving in. Dont fancy risking it on the stock tyres & having to re-inflate at midnight on my way home

well if you're as anal as me then you'll do about 10 practice rear wheel removal/refits just to make sure you have it set in your mind

never tried a belt driven bike , any great differance ?

Only had a quick ride up & down the lane to check everything was fine before I started swapping parts across from the old commuter, so cant really comment. Having not owned a hub geared bike before I'm not sure which will make the biggest difference hub gear or belt  Looking forward to not having to mess about cleaning chains through winter though

I'm intrigued Soltydog, what bike is it?

Long story, but it's all ColinJ's fault  Beenlooking for a hub geared bike for winter & after getting let down on ebay  I followed a link from ColinJ for an extra 10% off all prices at CRC & stumbled across The Corratec B-Drive only £337 in my size less 10% I just couldn't resist. There appears to be very few local stockists, so couldn't test ride one, or even look at one  So scoured the net for reviews but struggled. Found one for the 2009 model & only downside seemed to be weight, approx 16kg. Anyway it's arrived today & I'm well impressed for the money, Hub gear, belt driven, hub dynamo with front & rear lights, mudguards, rear rack & side stand all for £303. The welding isn't the neatest I've ever seen, but fine for my winter/work hack. Once I've had a few rides I'll post a little review on here

Looking at the bike on CR, it appears to have a Nexus 8 hub and V brakes on the back.

So getting the back wheel off should be a doddle (having roller or backpedal brakes fitted the nexus hub is the bit that makes wheel removal difficult.)

Pop the noodle out of the brake
Gear shifter into first on the 'bars
Rotate the gear shifter at the wheel end anti-clockwise so you can take the cable barrel out of the slot (same as a brake lever cable connection would)
Free the cable from the bracket
Undo the wheel nuts and remove the wheel.

Refitting is the reverse etc, as they say in Haynes manuals, but check the yellow lines in the window on the shifter at the hub end lines up when the shifter on the bars is in fourth gear afterwards.
