As part of the commuter strip and rebuild I have removed the cranks exposing the BB30. I've cleaned them up and tried out the bearings for smoothness, and while the one side spins freely, the non drive side feels rough.

After 4000+ miles during which they have suffered initially from the boardman CX lack of grease issue, for the sake of £20 I think I shall probably replace.

I've had a bit of a push but they seem stuck in they're pretty tight, although I've not had a serious go at removing... I've also had a look on wiggle and there don't seem to be any specific BB30 removal/installation tools.

Anyone with any knowledge/experience? YouTube seems strangely lacking in this area, particularly for the removal.

Damn. Looks like by the time I've paid for both tools I may as well have got a LBS to do the job for the amount of use of the tools would get

Is there definitely no way it can be done without?

I am loathed to take my bike to any LBS to have work done on it that I am happy to do myself. I recently had to replace a BB30 BB bearings & cranks... after checking out the cost of the park tool and the fact that I have no torque wrench (it's a carbon crankset), I had to take it in for the work to be done.
Be interesting to see alternative ways but it's not the kind of thing you would want to risk bashing with a lump of wood and a hammer, imho.

Is the bb30 similar to that of a bb90 that comes on a venge?

A mallet and chisel like was used to take it out. Careful does it really.
