Did anyone go to a Rememberance Sunday service?

Will you be observing the 2 minute silence on Tuesday? I'll be on a marketing course but will be asking the organizers to include it in the programme.

My work has never done that, but I wish they did. Not too much to ask is it?

Its not a lot to ask really when you consider what these men and women gave up.
My great uncle Johnathon was killed in WW1 and he was never found and my father fought in the 3rd battle of Ypres [Paashoindale] [spelling?] when he was 16, he joined up with his friend and saw him blown up and killed, affected Father for the rest of his life.

Yes, I was at the Heart of Midlothian Football Team service at Haymarket this morning. The memorial commemorates their first team who joined up for WW1. Most were killed during the war, it is a poignant memorial and to me brings home the real lives aspect of war.

I will be in a meeting on Tue morning and we will stop for 2 minutes of silence. I have already discussed the matter with the secretary of the meeting.

I work in a junior school and our year 6 go to france to visit the war graves (they obviously do other things too whilst there) .They all come back moved by the experience. We also invite war veterans into school to talk to them about their experiences. This is one area where the national curriculum if done properly makes a good impact on our youngsters

My wife and I were having that very conversation this morning as we heard the Radio 4 coverage of the Whitehall service saying something like 'now is the time to put aside our selfishness, our greed and remember those that gave their lives' etc etc. Not put aside enough to commemorate it on the 11th day, it would seem.

Here in France, the 11th is a public holiday and there are commemorations in just about every village. In my local village, the memorial itself makes for very sad reading (as no doubt it would in many an English village too); the same surnames leading to the conclusion that many families had lost many/all of their sons.

Here was I beginning to think the French had a more respectful approach... when I saw there's a club ride scheduled for the morning of the 11th! I'll let you know if we stop for a few minutes at 11am. I suspect we will.

Yes and yes...

we put out an announcement that we will be offering all staff and patients who wish to observe the silence and opportunity to do so.

Unless it is something that you can't stop.

I`ll be being quiet, as I shall be at the dentists, and so long as he doesn`t stop in the middle of something critical, I don`t care what he does.

No to the service but I did observe the two-minute silence at 1100; unlike one of my neighbours who was running a petrol driven strimmer or some such throughout. Ignorant git.

I work on an MoD site so the Tuesday 2-min silence will be strictly observed. Its not much to ask for when you consider the sacrifice made by those we're remembering.

Yep. Mrs A and I both attended our village service and we always do so unless working. It is the very least we can do in a simplistic attempt to honour those who suffered for us. No matter how often I go, I always feel the lump in my throat rise. Despite reported falling congregations, our church was full today. Very comforting.

I went to a rememberance service today, but purely on an operational basis to close the road & direct traffic for the parade. Thankfully I took my waterproofs as it absolutely pee'd it down and we got soaked. I felt sorry for the poor cadets they were soaked through and looked absolutely frozen when they went past.
I'll be observing the silence at work on Tuesday too.
