Oh absolutely fantastic the UCI are releasing details the day that the Giro starts impeccable timing. These people are buffoons and should not be left in charge of a paper bag never mind the sport of cycling.

Rumours have abounded for months that some riders are at it why have the UCI with all the info not acted before and why when they choose to do something that could be a real scandal do it on the day a Grand Tour starts ludicrous. Did no one at the UCI look at the calendar to see what was happening that day.

Not sure that the UCI are acting in the best interest of cycling here. Yes I want to see the dopers caught but the worlds cycling press will be at the start of the Giro on May 9th and once again the stories will not be about the glory of the race its history and achievements but of drugs and cyclists!

They must know who these people are. My best guess is that none of them are 'names', none of them are in the Giro and the whole thing will be spun to give a lick of whitewash to the Giro and the rest of the season.

Either that or a certain team have been using naughty pile cream again without a retrospective note from Lance's mum their doctor...:ohmy:

UCI spokeman was "misunderstood";

UPDATE: Carpani says he was misunderstood. Thanks to Monty for finding and translating this from tuttobici:
“I don’t want to start passing the buck, but there must have been some misunderstanding with the journalist from the Guardian, especially on the usage of certain terms. I never spoke – and let me emphasize that – of definite positive cases. I simply said to the interviewer that there will probably be before the Grand Tours some communique from the UCI regarding the progress of the biological passport. But the contents of this communique could also be, and we all wish it would be thus ‘All fine, nothing to report, let’s carry on like this."

It really is appalling, not least because the teams have paid significant amounts of money to McQuaid's keystone kop like testing squad. I really hope this isn't another false dawn, or things are going to get nasty again.
