Guys if relocating, is it normal to be put up in a hotel or B&B at the companies expense ?
If so, how long would be a reasonable period ?

It differs from company to company.

If relocating overseas, it's definitely the norm, not sure about within the UK though.

Most places I know will give between 2 weeks and a month in an average hotel or an apartment, unless you're a CEO in which case you should be expecting a little more!

When I relocated they put me up in a hotel for 8 months. It was during the last house price crash and not only was mine stuck but there wasn't much on the market to buy.

When I eventually found somewhere, the company bought my house from me! Quite a few years later they made me redundant.

I would say that in most cases of relocation within the same company, some form of accommodation for a period is normal. How long and at what level depends on the company and your position in the company.

It's not just the hotel/serviced flat costs that the company should be picking up for a couple of months until you sort out something yourself, but also all the costs associated with moving and refurbishing a new home

To be quite frank unless they are offering a good deal, you may well be financially better off staying put and if needed get another job

Keep in mind the two of the four most stressful things in life are moving home, moving job (which can lead to the other two, death and divorce)
