I saw a reinforcing strip when browsing around Halfords today. It looks like to stick it inside the tyre on top of the tube as it were. I think it must be self adhesive?

Anyone used them? any good?

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Do you mean the slime inner tube liners?

They are not self adhesive you just place it in the tyre before you put the tube in, but can wear the inner tube out quicker as it can rub it and the extra weight is noticeable. They certainly do help to stop punctures if you have a lot of them caused by road debris they could be worth it.

I would personally go for a puncture resistant tyre with something built in but the liners are better than nowt.

Are you looking to strengthen the tyre generally, or prevent the innertube bulging out of a slit.

I've used emery tape (like sandpaper but on a heavy duty cloth backing) as an emergency repair on a slit. Rough surface against the tyre, smooth surface against the innertube. Worked very well on a 6mm slit in my tyre...so much so it was still there several months later :becool::laugh:

Thanks all for your returns

I`ve just got another puncture(rear) I live in the wilds of the North Norfolk countryside, I want to keep riding around these lanes because they are in general traffic free and really nice to ride.
I must do something to try to stop these punctures (I think it`s all the rubbish and flint washed onto the road with this weather and the tractors.

My tyres are Kenda puncture resistant.

How about the slime that you put in your tubes and leave it in? I know it`s not the ideal but it might give me a break from repairing punctures. My tyres are 26" 1.75 nobblies and the bike is heavy( e bike)
I know I`m probably being naive but surely you can buy tyres with some sort of armour in them?

OT, the Kenda don't get great reviews, I'd recommend something from Schwalbe, Panaracer, Continental or Specialised.

If, like me, you would prefer a wider tyre, bigger than 30mm, then I'd personally look at the Schwalbe and Panracer options. The Schwalbe US website has a great facility to search their tyres by size:-

I have never punctured on my Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres, they're heavy, not the quickest(but I can still keep a 15mph average on rolling terrain) and can be a pain to get on/off, but they've done what was expected. This is after several thousand miles and includes crossing ones of the army ranges near Stonehenge, think bombsite rather than road:biggrin: The Panaracer touring one, Pasela TG, gets very good reviews as well. I don't think anyone claims better protection than the M+ but the Panaracers are meant to be much easier to get on/off.

Personally I wouldn't bother with tyre liners, tube sealant etc, it's faffy and there are plenty of tyres that'll do the job without add ons.
