Also i am 56 years old so i am well past my sell by date.

you could do it of course but, as in your title recovery time would be probably be twice as long. So would you rather do 2 rides today and none tomorrow ?

I am a similar age but not as fast.I find the following day after a big effort I feel ok but need much more use of granny ring if I go out on the bike.

You may find that, about 24 to 36 hours after, your mucsles may stiffen up and ache due to this delayed offset muscle disorder. (or something like that).

So tommorow or the next day you may start aching badly
