Hello,

Last Wednesday, I had a bit of a crash and (amongst other things) cut my knee. A trip to the hospital on Thursday means that I've now had glue and steri-strips applied (stitches would have to be in for at least 10 days) and been given instructions to keep it pretty straight. However, I'm supposed to be going to a training camp in Wales on Friday. The cut goes across my kneecap from one side to the other. Do I have any chance of making the camp?

Thanks,
Jim

I'm no expert, but I suppose it's all down to how strong the glue is, as you bend your knee it is going to be put under a lot of strain

Not too sure Jim.

I had glue on my knuckles once, and had it bandaged straight, but forgot and bent my hand after 6 days and the glue tore open. I had stitches put back in it's place.

I would take it easy, but to be fair, I just looked at my own knee, lol, and if I bend it, the skin on the knee cap doesn't seem to stretch too much, so you may be okay?

Jim, deep down I think you already really know the answer. When your body is injured the best thing is to let it heal properly.

I have had to make the decision not to ride in two separate bike events in the last couple of years and I was gutted at the time. One due to gout where I was trying to convince myself that I would be okay and manage the ride, and the other last weekend due to a nasty adductor strain. It's very hard to pull out of these things, but sometimes you just have to.

The advice from the hospital was to keep the knee straight, what do you think they would say if you went out on a training camp where you are bending the knee 80 times a minute for a number of hours, doesn't sound like a good idea does it!!

Even if the glue has done it's job and the skin is healing underneath there will not yet be enough layers of skin, so the chance of it splitting open are pretty high I would reckon.

I was really hoping for some stories of Wolverine-like recovery from this kind of thing, but thanks for the replies anyway - looks like I'll be missing this one.

Thanks again,
Jim
