One of the B:Twin Triban range must be in the running.

Monitor the big online retailers - you'll often find more expensive models from the previous year going cheap, sometimes half price. You might get a bike that originally cost much more.

Be patient, surf the sites, use the Force...

Thanks, I've heard they're pretty good value.

What are the best road bikes to buy new with a budget around the £400 mark? Looking to replace my current road bike soon when I reach this budget.
This would be on my list https://www.merlincycles.com/felt-f...s&ucpo=34312&gclid=CIjAivzuuNICFdS7GwodSS4Lyg

Whatever you decide, try it out first given the last road bike you bought was completely the wrong size!

Yeah, I will. Going to get a 54 cm frame this time which should be fine.
Don't make that assumption - remember manufacturers use different measurements to determine the 'size' - a 54cm boardman for example uses the seattube measurement, while others use the effective or actual top tube, Giant use something else again from memory. Frames are different shapes too

Forget trying to get a bargain, find the right bike at a local shop and then see what you can do on price by haggling/negotiation. Or Evans do testrides and will pricematch almost every other retailer, so I'd start there!
