Got myself a funky 2010 Specialized Sirrus Sport, took it out for the first time today and I am not going to get on with clips and straps. So I need some nice standard (non clipless) pedals to go on it. I think resin better than metal as I do have a tendency to clumsiness and thus shin scraping! I still bear the scars from an old bike (it's been a long time)

These look sound for the cash http://www.wiggle.co...ommuter-pedals/ but happy to spend more if there is something much better out there

I assume pedals are easy to fit for a technically inept female! Or should I just get something more costly from my LBS and get them to fit -I also want to add a computer and the bike is due it's first service

OK- another really stupid question - am I right to assume pedals are always sold in pairs- I've been caught out on car brake parts before!

All pedals i've bought have come in pairs.
I have two pairs of Shimano XT's which have prooven faultless over the past 3 years. Easily adjustable and reasonably maintenance free. It's easy to get in and out of them.
They have though rusted quite well and do look a little sorry for them selves now.
My friend has egg beaters by Crank Brothers and swears by them. They do not clog with dirt and he think they look the business. (i don't)
Like most things though, you gets what you pays for. £50 should see you get a reasonable pair which remember you can take from bike to bike easily.

Oh and they are a dodle to fit. Just need a spanner and to put them on the right side which is clearly indicated on the pedals.

Thanks  As I mentioned, I am not interested in SPD / clip in pedals. I am not sure if Shimano make 'normal' pedals?

Seem a reasonable choice. I've got some DMR V8s but shin scrapes aside pedals with pins chew up your
footwear.
To replace pedals you need a pedal spanner and they have opposing threads so you unscrew in the same direction from the point of view of above rather than from the side plus it will take a certain amount of aggro to shift them initially.

Cheers Ian.

I'll see what my LBS has to offer first. I am just cycling on the other side of the pedal to the clip bit at the moment, but keep scraping going round corners!

Cant you just take the clips and straps off the pedals ?

Is your bike one of these:

Yes, but could not figure how. They seem to be held on with rubbish plastic screws that disintegrate at the sign of a screwdriver

I would be tempted to try to prise them off by trying to hammer a flatblade screwdriver between the mouning plate of the clip and the pedal and hopfully the plastic screws will give first, or hacksaw the clips off, after all if you break the pedal you will have to buy some anyway if not you will save a few quid.

I've seen some good recommendations on these ones:-

I could just ask the LBS to remove the strap bits. The pedals do feel pretty flimsy so happy to upgrade regardless

I had a look in my shed and I have got some of those that came with my Specialized Secteur Elite when I bought it if you prise off the reflector that is in front of the clip it just pops off and so does the clip there as no screws just plastic poppers on the back of the relector then just untread the straps.
