NOD32 for me - catches more viruses than Norton or Mcafee and is cheaper. Also doesn't slow your system down.

PC plus carried out a review of AV solutions last month and now recommends

DriveSentry 3.1 (Free)

Website

Techradar

"Drive sentry is a departure from the norm because it takes a unique approach to anti virus protection, it works very well"

Nod32, Trend and Panda are respected applications, Norton is expensive bloatware consumes CPU and ram resources without mercy and McAfee is not far behind. Sophos is top of the shop but at £133 may be a little on the expensive side

AVG and AVast which are both free to download are adequate for top layer internet users, however if you have a interest in wandering into some of the darker area of the interweb then I would suggest something like Nod32 or Trend as the best solution.

I just installed Kaspersky last night. Early days then but it does look good. Comes consistently high in tests and has a few nice features like a virtual keyboard so that keystroke loggers won't work. Piece of mind if you use Internet banking etc.

Check the revues though. Kaspersky can be a pest to install on machines that have had Mcaffe on them and the support seems patchy.

Avast (as an ex-AVG user).

Paid for - Kaspersky internet suite, it installs and runs in the background perfectly

Free - Avast with Comodo firewall ( Comodo security suite is good but don't run 2 av's )

Sandboxie has a free and paid version. Highly recommended, set to run every time you open a browser.

Best av is you - watch what sites you visit and what you download

I use the full AVG, three computers covered for 2 years for the same price as one computer for one year for Norton
