As above I'm a bit fed up with punctures on my 45c tyres on my hybrid -Kenda Khan. The tread is a good mix for the riding I do, tow paths, broken roads and the less than occasional smooth tarmac. The Khan has the usual composition of smooth centre treads with blocky sides, I'm looking for something similar whilst reducing tyre width to get more progress, but more importantly it needs to be fairly puncture proof!

Thanks for any recommendations in advance..

Top Contacts by Continental are great IME, The rear was replace on the Ridgeback after excess of 6000miles (2 p'ture IIRC) the front is still going at 8800miles (although its now the rear and a new continental reflex is on the front).

Gatorskins come in a 32

I never had issues with the Specialized all condition tyres either

Thanks for replies:

Great- so Top Contacts from Conti's , looks good tread patterns looks good dealing with the smooth and rough. How well does it behave when it hits the odd muddy patch on canal paths and off beaten tracks? Looks like a top tyre, fetching top dollars also, though my annual mileage will be under 1000 miles so paying for quality and durability is not an issue.

Marathon plus looks hugely popular, significantly cheaper than the conti's- tread pattern very similar to the Kenda Khan. * Just had a look and halfords are doing 30% off on all Schwalbe tyres making it very affordable indeed.

Gatorskins- look a bit too slick for my liking, not sure how it would handle in the odd mud and loose gravel off the beaten track.... There is a specialised tyre that looks very similar to the Top Contacts but not sure how puncture proof they are.

Anyone else made the leap from fatt-ish 45c to 32c tyres?

I dropped from larger size hybrid tyres to Gatorskin 32's. They are fine for cycle tracks but I certainly wouldn't want to put them up against a muddy track.

Double check the prices on Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles first as these are normally cheaper than Halfords.

Cheers, halfords still tops out, and that's even before the quidco cashback

Pulled the trigger at the end with halfords with a set of Marathon plus 32Cs. Gosh what a heavy set of tyre! Despite the numerous reports, they weren't too bad too fit, bit tricky but the spa cycle youtube tutorial helped to get the last bit of over handing bead to around 30cm- no cable ties. There afterwards some careful application of tyre lever working in an inch at a time, I found it easier when levering the overhanging side wall in, is to lift/pull the other side of tyre upwards.

First ride, feels harder to get going but when I did, it cruised very nicely average speed has climbed an extra 1-2 mph or so...
