I love my Specialized BG Sport MTB shoes they are very, very comfortable and show no signs of wear after 18 months use. One thing to be aware of, well in my case anyway is to go a size up from your regular shoe size.

Currently I own a pair of Shimano MT-SH22 touring shoes http://s9.thisnext.com/media/largest_dimension/278C5BCB.jpg that I use for touring and commuting. These are pretty worn out and although they've brought me years of pleasure I want to get a new pair, something similar (SPD cleat compatible) that I can walk about in. So what do people recommend?

You have the same pair of commuting shoes that I have.

What I like about them is that the sole has a bit of give in them. Downside is they are laced which can occasionally annoy.

I have another "weekend shoe", a pair of Pearl Izumi's. The sole is much stiffer and I do prefer the Shimano's for commuting.

You could always get another pair?

I have these too. 2 pairs in fact. One i have had for years and fit fine, and I bought a second a size bigger to allow two pairs of socks for the winter. Excellent

I have the Specialized Tahoe and the Sonoma - perfectly decent and comfy especially if wide footed - The Tahoe's came up small, the Sonoma true to size for me (I have 44s and 43s respectively)

Spesh do a touring version of the ever excellent BG Sport MTB shoes. I own the mtb ones and the guy at the next desk wears the touring model. As far as I can tell the only difference is a smoother non-slip 'rubber' sole on the tourer vs hard, teflon like, plastic on the MTB version.
