... something light, not overly bright, just need it for fixing visitations, and roadside fettling on the run home of a night. Mainly unlit roads btw. Ideally something I can fit and forget on the front or top of my road helmet and take off easily once winter's been and gone.

TBH, if you wear a helmet, I'd recommend a Knog Frog for that sort of thing. If you don't, head off to Millets and pick up anything Petzl which is on sale.

With torch style lights and a helmet, I've used straps of old inner tubes which I can slip a light into as needs be. I leave the straps on. They hardly weigh anything at all, though my nephew did exclaim to me this summer, ''Don't tell me your helmet is held together with inner tubes!''

I've had knog stuff ping off the bike into the undergrowth. Will take a trip to millets, and TK Maxx during the week

If you just want a head light Poundland (Taunton anyway) had them in a couple of weeks ago at - you guessed - £1. I got one and it's in my saddlebag ready for punctures or other on road emergencies

The knog frog strobes are decently bright for that kinda stuff, wont really light up the road at all though. I had one on my helmet for a while, it was seriously difficult to remove

I have some refective LED armbands, I just strap one across the rear of my helmet and it has 4 flashing LED's. and best still they were £3.99 for 4 in Lidl.

Would I need an elaborate system of mirrors to then use them to see in the dark...?;)

I'm a poundland fan and those lights are ****

I did get some "Power Beam" lights from HK on eBay that look EXACTLY like the poundland ones, but when you feel the moulding lines and switches of the 2, the Hong Kong ones are much better, for more or less the same price (just a longer wait for postage)

In fact this is the exact light I use on my helmet with the bracket posted above
