Only for unavoidable little bits and pieces. Thing is, they're smack bang on the Sherwood Pines centre. They're MTB specialists, so will know what they're talking about. and have a decent range of stock on their website. Your friend will get decent advice, as opposed to less specialist shop, and if he's honest with them as to what he wants to ride on his new bike, they'll be able to see him on the right sort of bike. OOMV as to price etc, but it'd be a good place to start.

Decent shop, and the guys in there do know their stuff.... But the proximity to the trail centre/Centre Parcs and a normal customer base who I suspect has either more money than sense, or an urgent need for something "right now" means their prices can be rather eye-watering.

On parts and tools, spares and consumables, probably, and why not? I once paid RRP for a pair of pedals 'cos I was in the middle of a three day holiday in Scotland and smashed the old ones up. In those circumstances the tenner over the odds was fair enough. I do however doubt they'd go over the top on bikes, as even the most benighted of MTB buyers aren't going to go in completely blind.

Barron Cycles, Sturton by Stow. A lot of the locals around your way will use them. Make for a nice 20 mile each way bike ride as well.
