Rear wheel for turbo trainer

I have an old Bontrager rear wheel which has 8 cracks on the rim where the spokes go in.
What i thought of doing was just sticking a cheapo tyre on and tube and a cheap shimano cassette on it and just using it for my turbo
OR
Can anyone recommend another idea, i dont want to spend a fortune because im saving for my next toy.

Just use your current wheel and tyre.

Just use it, even if it smashes, you aren't going to go anywhere as you are held up but the QR skewer.

Its still true, but i just dont want to ruin my tyre
