Hi all,
On Saturday my rear mech hanger snapped, resulting in a ver mangled 105 rear mech and a damaged Carbon frame. Thankfully all under warranty, as the bike is only 5 months old. I personally have never experienced this kind of failure before. I am wondering if it is me that has damaged it, via my cycling. I do like a sprint these days, and from a rolling speed of about 22mph I can accelerate quite rapidly to 35+ mph, probably reach 40 at max. I hear about Cavendish having parts reinIforced as he hits 50mph. I ride a Pinarello RoKH, but am wondering, do I need to get a stronger hanger put the bike when I get it replaced? Or am I just unlucky?

Your sprint speeds are not that mighty so I would not think you would need anything different to standard.

No, because the mech etc takes no power through it - it just guides the gears. Power is transmitted py the cranks to the rear cassette - the mech sits 'after' the power.

The ROKH is a pretty damn bomb proof bike. You haven't dropped or banged it ?

Hi, thanks for the feedback, I didn't think it would be sprinting, but just wanted to be sure. The bike is my baby,it gets treated like royalty, so no it hasn't been dropped or knocked. I guess my initial assumption is correct, just unlucky. Hope to hear today what the course of action is going to be.

A lot of broken mechs are down to grass or other crap getting wrapped around the mech - any chance of that happening? If not I guess you're in the clear for a warranty claim. Good luck.

And echoing above, it's definitely not the sprinting...

I knocked mine last week,i fell off waiting to allow a motorist to pass. She was so surprised i think she stalled and i lost balance and crashed to the ground. On checking no real damage done.So i hope you get it sorted soon.I also know what you mean about the bike being well looked after. You could eat your dinner off mine.

No muck or grass caught up, In fact I had only cleaned the chain cassette and mech last weekend, re-oiled and aligned gears ready for our club time trials on a Thursday. The bike was excellent at the time trial, and was ok most of Saturday morning. I think it must have been bad luck, maybe faulty from manufacturing. The bike is only 5 months old. At no point has it been knocked, and as far as I know, nothing caught or hit, or at least not that I have noticed or seen, and I think I would have.
