Rear mech hanger dilemma........help needed plz

I bought a new mech hanger from cycles uk yesterday as mine is bent slightly, the one I bought looks the same ( original to the left new one to right ) but on installing it the rear mech's b-tension screw has to be wound all the way in to just get the top jockey wheel clearing the cassette cogs.

Although its working it isn't right so I added an old hi / lo screw which is same thread but 4 or 5mm longer than the stock screw but I cant help thinking its the wrong hanger as there are many variants of these hangers very similar to look at but cant seem to track down the correct one ?

In the 2nd pic I have drawn in black pen where the bottom right of the hanger needs to be so the screw does its job sitting against the bottom step without only just working having to be screwed all the way home like it is at present.

The bike its off is an old 05 Viking Targa Dx mountain bike but tracking down any parts for these is not happening at all.

You maybe thinking well if its working whats the worry but as the mechs tension spring wears over time there will be a day when the adjustment on the screw is no more.

Thanks for looking,

Deano

The hanger looks like the correct one. Are u sure you have refitted the rear mech correctly - there is a little tab that should rest on the tail of the hanger? If you have and it is still wrong then the mech maybe has a problem - if you have replaced a screw then look there first. Any mech of the right speed should fit?

Yes I put the mech on correctly but the problem is still present but was'nt a problem with the old mech but it had worn out on all pivot points and needed constant adjustment almost every ride so replaced with an almost identical one to look at but with a different name on it, but if you look carefully at top pic the original to the left has more metal to left of threaded hole than the new one and bottom step id ever so slightly angled more upwards.

Just noticed also that the new one from the top right hand corner point to step point at bottom is 3mm shorter than original and also the mech fixing threaded hole is in a different place by a couple of mm either way ?

I know I'm going to be swearing but have you tried looking Halfords, found a drop out to fit my storm cornerworker in there which is a 10 yr old American downhill frame

No not tried there as everytime I go in there their stock is pityful and even after going back months later its still not been checked and they have even less or are out of even more parts they obviously dont check their stock from one month to another, I recently took this up with the manager just last week and complained how they had a stereo specialist from the main floor working in the bike department upstairs when they were short staffed and when I asked for mountain bike hydraulic cable clips he said eerrrrr dunno mate maybe downstairs on car section ..........anyway I got £25 gift voucher for the inconvenience

I even thought about making one myself but my brother could do it better as he works in a cnc workshop with a machine that will scan the new one but can add extra metal to the bottom tab where screw sits or anywhere else I want to modify it and in a whole range of aluminiums, steels and but think ali be the best as a steelie could damage my frame if its gets a whack as it doesn't give as easy as my last one did when my son not looking till too late rode straight in the back of my mech :cursing: as you can see from the drop out arch in the pic, I had to remove hanger to allow wheel to drop out.
