I bought a RSM Astrum [2x 1/2 watt] rear light which is very bright and runs for a good 80hrs you can pick them up for about £13 shopping around.

Blackburn Mars 4.0 if you want something small, bright and still with a reasonable battery life. It has a 1 watt LED, has a fairly solid mounting, and can handle the rain.

I'm using a combo of the Smart superflash clipped on to my wedge saddlebag and a Mars 4.0 on the seat post and they have coped well with the night training I've been doing with the club. The Smart has a longer battery life tha the Mars but they are both great lights for the money.

I would go for THIS, I have the single 1/2 watt version and its pretty bright.

another for the astrum, save your money for the front, no need to spend big money on a rear these days

Personally, I prefer to have two rear lights. That way I can be reasonably confident that if one packs up, falls off(!) or the battery goes flat that the other one will still make me visible.

I've got two Cateye LD610's. Friends, and our local PCSO, who have driven passed me have often commented about how visible the lights are.

Smart and Cateye rear lights have always let me down in the rain, but the Electron 7LED lasts. I use two, one above the other. About £15 each.
