Any suggestions for a rear light for my MTB bike fitted with a Brooks sprung saddle? I have a saddle bag fitted so seat post lights are a no-no. The usual saddle mounted light fixture needs rails which are not fitted on this saddle. I have fitted a light lower on the frame near the drop outs but ideally would like the rear light as high as possible. I am currently considering a helmet mounted Cateye if no frame or saddle mount is possible.

I always managed to fit a rear led light to a saddle bag. Using zip ties to keep it secure. Sometimes used to drill through the back of the light to enable the zip ties to be pushed through.

Also had lights on both sides of the seat stays.

And always reflective slap bands on the ankles.

Others have suggested putting a light on seat stays and i think that's a great idea. Fitting a light to a saddle bag doesn't strictly meet the lighting law requirements.

Yeah, but he’s already got a light fixed to the seat stay so additional lights don’t need to be strictly compliant.

Cateye do a good range of fixings. I'm not sure about saddle fixing, but they do one which can be angled on a seat stay, which could be fitted high up (mine is about half way down, you can just see it on the pic here https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/your-ride-today.173254/post-7310700 )
The light I am using is secured by a flexible wrap around strap which tends to move around. Is this fixing secured to the rear seat stay? If that is the case which Cateye light are you using?

“Lit up like a Xmas tree” 😀Thanks for the suggestion. I have never found lights attached to a saddle bag very satisfactory as the light always seems to hang down or swing depending on how full the bag is.

Clip one to your clothing e.g. jersey rear pocket or to rucksack etc?

Thank you for the suggestion but I think I would go for a Cateye light and helmet mount before any clip on although I do carry one as a spare.

Can you post a couple of pictures of the bike, from behind and the side so we can get a better idea of your options? (With the saddlebag fitted.). Including close ups of that area…

Yes, it's fixed to the seat stay.

I think the light is one of these https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/lightinglighting-usb/cateye-rapid-micro-usb-rear-light/ but there are several other cateye ones which would fit it.

I think the clamp is one of these, though not entirely sure https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/lightin...stay-clamp-for-rear-leds-127-138-mm-diameter/

[edit: not sure if the cateye fixing for saddles would work for yours, would be worth looking at]
