Rear derailer problem

Please bear with me. I need to moan.

One of my inner tubes failed. I eventually got replacements, but now I haven't been out on the bike in weeks.

Took my rear wheel off and also took the rear derailer off. The derailer took rather a lot of effort to get back on, and now I have it back on, it won't shift onto the biggest gear.

I'm probably missing something obvious, but unfortunately, my expertise in electronic engineering (which I now haven't used in ages) doesn't really come in handy with this.

I'll get everything sorted one day.

Eyup theer lad.

Check the cable, if it's not tight enough adjust it at either the derailuer end, or the shifter end, depending on system. If there is no more adjustment, undo the cable, pull wind the adjuster right back out, tighten the cable up, and then adjust it.

I'll suggest the rather good Haynes book of bikes for tips like this, ever so slightly better than the car ones in that they avoid "reassembly is the reverse of this procedure" in the most part.

Or, better yet, get someone to post a lik to something free....

That looks like it could be quite handy, but I do like to be able to put a greasy thumb print on the page while I'm swearing at the inanimate object I'm attacking

I'm pleased to say that I got it working.

Gave the bike a good clean up and polish as well. Looks tons betters. My chain was full of muck.

I made the wheels slightly more true (don't have the equipment to make it perfect) and set the brakes up better as well.

Just need to fine tune it all now. Will be nice to go out again as I don't think I've had a proper ride on it since August.
