Rear brake issue

So I went out for my first ride of the year today and managed to bring the ride to an abrupt end with my first fall.

I was overtaken by a car who got a bit too close, as the car got alongside I moved closer to the kerb to give him room but I hit a pothole (which was full of water so I couldn't see how deep it was) and ended up hitting the kerb and going over the handle bars.

After I got up I tried to get going again but the rear wheel was jammed. I fiddled with the brakes and that unjammed the wheel for a few seconds but when I tried to ride off it just jammed again.

Any ideas how to fix it, or would it be better to take it to a shop to get it checked out?

Ouch. Hopefully the rear wheel has just been knocked out of the drop outs causing it to jam against the brakes, that's easy to fix just open the QR/axle bolt and reset it; anything else is difficult to diagnose without seeing the bike. Touchwood, the more dominant position I take further from the kerb discourages most cr@p ot's and also gives me wiggle room when not, take care.

Best case - the wheel has gone out of true and just needs re-truing by tightening up several spokes.

Worst case - the rim has bent or the hub is kaput and you may need a new rim/hub.

If there is no sign of damage to the rim it could just be the former - I'd take it to the LBS and ask their advice.

Thanks for the advice. I had a quick look at the side of the road and it didn't look like the rim was bent so hopefully a new one won't be needed. I'll have a crack at HLaB's suggestion but if that doesn't sort it then I'll have to get the LBS to take a look.

I think if the pothole hadn't of been there then I would have been fine, but even so I think I'll ride a little further away from the kerb from now on.
