Rear basket

Does anyone have one of those rear wire-mesh baskets that fit longtitudinally on the rack, with a lowered lip immediately behind the rider (presumably so it can snug up behind the saddle)? Like this one.
If so, can you tell me the height of the lowered lip? And the make of the basket?
I have contacted five different companies which sell them to ask this - and none of them are able (or willing) to tell me. Useless! They are 'only customer service' and 'cannot access items in the warehouse'. Or provide any useful service when one has perfectly reasonable queries about items in said warehouse, it would seem.
I am very short - under 5ft - so need to know if the height of the dropped side will enable me to 'snug up' the basket to the saddle, or not. If not then there's no advantage to getting one, I may as well carry on with what I'm using at the moment.

My daughter had one on here bike at uni, bike was decathlon so pretty sure the basket was too, but may be wrong. will have a look in the shed. she isnt much over 5', and I think it did what you said and fitted between rack and seat, which was pretty much at lowest setting. proved it worth in transporting cheap cider from Aldi back to digs.:okay:

Yes I know and I've read them, and they have sent me those measurements - but they, like you, failed to actually understand my question which is requesting the height of the side which is lower than the other three. When I pointed this out to the manufacturers, their reply, though polite enough, was that they cannot measure it for me as 'we are only customer service and do not have access to the warehouse'.
It appears to be about half the height of the other three sides purely from the pix but as we all know, pix, especially on the web, can be very misleading.
I've been to Evans and Halfords in Preston to see if they had something similar so I could measure it - no such things to be found - and phoned round half a dozen local bike shops, no such thing in stock. A couple could 'get one in for me' - but they don't know the height of that darned lower side either! At least they understood my issue, though ...

Yes, Decathlon do one - which is not quite the same design as the one I'm looking at, but similar enough. I can check if they've got one in and go and have a look (with my tape measure), but it's a fair old hike - not very far as the crow flies but at least three different buses to get there, and the same back. If you can get to the shed and measure it, I'd be very grateful!

Ok, it sounded like you'd only asked retailers not the manufacturers...my bad

As above, why not just order one online, measure it, if no good just return. Use PayPal and the return can be free (if not offered by the retailer). Probably less time consuming than searching the country

They stock it on Amazon so maybe you could ask the question on the item and hope a customer responds.

Amazon product ASIN B0011FQ8OKView: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rear-Wire-Rack-Fit-Basket/dp/B0011FQ8OK/ref=sr_1_18?

Alternatively, order it from them, measure it (or even offer it in place where it'll be fitted) and check for yourself. Returns are free if you decide you want the cheaper seller or it doesn't fit.
Gave up using Amazon when I had an issue with them that was never resolved ... but might ask my neighbour to post a Q on that item for me, thanks for the idea.

So in short you need just over 10cm clearance under saddle to the rack on mine. Which is a Basil brand, so maybe not decathlon. Daughter may have got it off amazon. Struggling to post pics...

Thanks a lot - that's a great help.
My estimation of 'about half the full height' was probably not too far out. I think the Basil brand ones I saw looked a bit less 'steep' of an angle from the side 'full height' to the lower edge, but I expect they are all much of a muchness. Now to go out to the shed when it's light tomorrow, and measure it. I think there will be 10cm or so clearance, thinking about what I've had variously strapped onto the rack and under the saddle; at a pinch I could raise the saddle half a cm or so. I will check and hopefully I'm good to go!
