Real Time Tracking for Android?

Anyone know of any apps for Android phones which offer real time tracking of the phone?

At the moment I'm using InstaMapper, but nothing is happening to it in the way of development so I've no idea how long it will stay alive for.

Google Latitude does it, it doesn't update every second (think it's every 15 mins or so, unless they haven't moved).

I've not looked (apart from Latitude), but do these others have proper real time tracking, as in another party can log into a website and see where I am/where I've been as I move around?

iMapMyRides does if you use the 'Live' setting. I've not used it myself but according to the app it "lets friends track your workout progress on a map"

The only one I know of that'll just do it "live" all the time is Latitude, though there must be others (besides InstaMapper). The GF and I use it and it's live enough. The various sports tracker type apps usually have a live mode, but that's just for exercise sessions rather than a constant thing. Other track recorders (like MyTracks) can share the recorded tracks afterwards.

The answer will depend on exactly why you want it. If it's now-and-then, something like Endomondo might be the way to go as it's real-time. If it's constant, then something other than Latitude or HTC Sense (less ideal, as anyone accessing it could wipe your 'phone) will reduce your battery life by quite a lot.

Its only for while I'm out on the bike, mainly for safety reasons as I tend to ride alone and in the middle of nowhere. The missus keeps an eye on InstaMapper every now and then to make sure i'm still moving. I did use Latitude to begin with, but found it a bit unreliable sometimes. InstaMapper is very precise and keeps a log of where you've been, not just where you are currently. You can tell the app how often you want it to update, and it can store up a number of GPS points to send as a batch if you out of range of a net connection.

I'd write an Android app myself to do it, but I'd need a server to store all the GPS points being sent back from the app.

I didnt realise Endomondo had a 'live' mode though. Is that just the paid version?

I use Lattitude to track my son on, and provided he has GPS turned on and can get a decent internet signal I can keep an eye on him from afar, usually to the level of going out and opening the garage door as he is coming down the road!

I've found Latitude to be accurate enough, it just depends on the quality of the GPS signal. In town, having wifi enabled helps. Your better half can even set it for real-time updating, though it looks like that's only available on the Android app.

I might have been wrong about Endomondo - it's definitely a feature of the full version of "Sports Tracker" (sportstrackerlive.com).

I tried Endomondo on the way home, and it looks like it does work, but as it leaves the GPS on permanently, its quite a battery drainer. I'll have a look into these others, but the main thing I like about InstaMapper is that you decide how often it updates, which id quite handy, as I have it updating every 5 mins and this has very little battery drain as it turns off the GPS between those times.
