Would like your views on these !
After reading this and other forums, it seems h*lf*rds has a less-than-perfect reputation ! Seems to be the general concensus that they can't put a bike together, staff aren't really interested etc.
But what about their bikes ? Well, this one - LADIES REAL CLASSIC http://www.halfords....tegoryId_231005

The pic doesn't do it justice. It's much better looking in the flesh lol. Ticks most of the boxes, just need to add a basket and lights. The customer reviews are all great. But will it drop to bits after 6 months ? About £310 all in, with the extras.

I was after a Redy Nostalgia from mybeautifulbike.com in Impington, Cambridge but when I emailed them last week about stock they said it will be about another 2 weeks before they get them in again. That's ok I thought, but the website has now gone and when I did a google streetview of the showroom it was a house on an estate. They have a fb page but there's been nothing on it since last summer. About £320 all in.

Then of course there's the one that is REALLY pulling at my heartstrings....another one that doesn't provoke a good reaction....a pashley poppy ! I love with a capital L this bike. Would have to add a pannier rack, basket and lights. Cheapest I found it online is £365 + extras on top.

I've looked at loads of hybrids and other stuff, but these 3 are the ones I seem to be dithering on. I would really appreciate your opinions. Bear in mind it has been 27 years since I was on a bike, I'm trying to learn very quickly some of the techie stuff !

I don't think there's anything wrong with Halfords bikes, or their products generally. They do get a lot of stick for having some useless staff, but bear in mind they sell more bikes than anyone else, so all things being equal you would expect them to generate a lot more complaints than other shops. Going to a LBS is no guarantee that you will get good service. Just make sure you give the bike a good check over before you ride, eg make sure the brakes work, handlebars, wheels, saddle etc aren't loose etc, anybody can make a mistake after all. Can't comment on the bikes, but £300+ should buy you a decent bike. The only thing that would put me off is only having 3 gears, compared to what you'd get with a hybrid/city style bike.

I just wish I could make my mind up ! I was really keen on the redy nostalgia from mybeautifulbike but am a bit concerned about the website disappearing and the showroom address being a house.

A friend of mine was in a similar dilemma. We went along to Halfords where they had the Real and a Pashley Princess (basically a black Poppy). The Pashley was a much nicer bike although a bit heavier. Resale values will be much higher on the Pashley should you ever decide to sell it, and you will be riding a piece of British history instead of a mass produced far-east import. Beware though, the Pashley will be very nickable so invest in a lock.

If you're going to buy the redy nostalgia by mail then you could just buy it from amazon instead though as mentioned it's best to try sitting on the bikes first to check for size/comfort etc.
