I'm thinking of getting some reactive glasses. I currently have interchangeable lenses, and it's a bit of a pain carrying the extra lenses and a cleaning cloth, and stopping to change them.
I ride in varying light conditions in the south of France, the light changes between shade and sun can be large.
It's a possibility I will be looking for prescription lenses too, just to make it more difficult. I can see where I'm going, but I can't see the Garmin, which is a frustration. Not sure whether it's worth going to prescription lenses for this.
Advice and experiences would be welcome

The optical world is a baffling place with lots of jargon flying around, varifocal, reactolite, transitions, bifocal etc etc.
You should be able to have a consultation with an optician without committing yourself to find out what is best suited to your needs.
Be wary of deals and offers from the chain store specs shops, they may not be all they appear.

I wear reactive varifocal glasses all of the time. They work very well with the exception of walking indoors from really bright sunlight when unless the room is very bright (For indoors.) detail is hard to make out for a couple of minutes. I need the reactive prescription because I'm very sensitive to bright light, getting a migraine if I have to ride into a low sun for very long with out protection. I'd say go for them.

I've got some transition prescription sport sunglasses. A bit expensive, but very much multi-use. Never had any problems with them.

I got some prescription Oakleys from RX sport, not cheap at around £260 (and that was with a £50 discount). Work v well though

Optilabs do them, but personally they weren't much cheaper and their frame range limited and pretty unappealing for the direct glazed ones (I didn't want inserts)

I can't clearly see where I am going without prescription lenses so I had no choice! The Garmin the least of my problems

I used to have reacting prescription lens for several years and when I was outside on a sunny day they were great. However, it worth remembering they react to ultra violet light and not sunshine. Hence, even on a dull, cloudy day when you don't need any shading they will darken to some extent. Also, as byegad as indicated they don't react too quickly when the light conditions change. If this isn't enough, when driving the car's windscreen keeps out most of the UV light and so they do not darken even when the sun's glare is hindering your visibility.

The light conditions in the south of France may be more suited to them than here in eastern England but I have gone back to ordinary lenses for general use and will buy some prescribed sunglasses.

I use the Rudy Project RX for this reason

The insert is a varifocal lens that I renew with my prescriptions

I then use the photo-chromatic lenses, mainly the Racing Red, but the darker lenses are used on bright days
