In July I changed GPS unit from a Garmin Edge 605 to a Etrex Legend HCx. I bought a RAM mount to fit the new unit to my bike which initially worked well but now a key bit has broken off after less than 2 months. Their website says you can send them a digital photo of the part but customer services are insisting the part is sent back. So now my GPS is effectively useless unless I can come up with a different way of attaching it to the bars!!!

Any ideas?

Is it the cradle part of the RAM mount ? I've several of these and always found them very robust.
Somewhat less impressed with their push & turn QR system, borked one already.

I'm currently working on a modification of a Klick-Fix mini that will mount directly on the back of the Legend. I will have quite a few spare screws of the appropriate thread and in different lengths when I'm done, so can let you have a couple if you want to make your own.

No it's the push and turn bit. I've seen something (forgotten where I picked it up now) that involved filing a groove into the back of the mount so I'm going to do that then zip tie it with an old innertube behind it.

Well I got a refund for the RAM mount but no refund on the postage costs of sending the unit back which is I think unfair. The mount broke under normal usage and therefore was not fit for purpose. I'll write to them querying the lack of postage costs but I am definitely not happy with this company.

First test of home-brew one Sunday - didnt have the KlickFix bit tight enough on the bars so it was gradually turning round, but my bit of it was fine.

BTW I just zip-tie my RAM cradle direct to the stem, my bad experience with the push & turn was on my wife's who doesn't have enough space for a direct mounting.

Yeah I filed a groove into the back of my cradle as described previously and now it's zipped tied over a bit of innertube on the stem. So far it's been ok. Actually firmer in place than when I had the push and click bit there.
