Raliegh Dynatech - fitting a modern 130mm hub

I have one of these I would like to use as a winter trainer. However its currently running the OEM hubs and wheels and I was thinking of fitting a modern hub and rim.

I know that these frames are bonded and hence am not sure about spreading it out to 130mm - it is worth the hassle or should I stick with what I have

thanks

You are talking about bending the frame either 10 or 4mm, depending on your current spacing. It is very little. However, aluminium frames are extremely difficult to bend because they are so rigid. I assume yours is alu because of the bonding*. Give us some more info and we'll mull over it. I've spread plenty of alu frames for better and wider wheels - mostly tandems from 130 to 145mm but it is very, very difficult. Steel is a cinch. But, these were all welded.

Bonding is a fancy word for gluing like cold-setting is a fancy word for bending.

Are you wanting 130mm for more gears or just new wheels? If the latter they usually have large locking nuts that can be changed (maybe for the ones you already have) to change the spacing down to 126mm. I've done it a few times and it works a treat.

Dynatech should already be 130mm. In any case, they used lots of different materials, so some more specifics would be useful.
