Hi. Iv just been given this old raleigh. I'm hoping someone can give me any info on it. I don't have a clue what year it was made and whether it was made in England

Looks a fairly standard 80s ladies touring effort. A clean, lube and budget replacement parts where required should restore it nicely.

Have a look for a serial number (usually under the bottom bracket) and use Sheldon's guide for a more accurate idea of age.

agree re @AndyRM 's comments also check the hubs i would expect them to have 4 digits ie 10 85 which is month and year , also look on the back side of calipers for another date stamp

i moved the cable holder out the way on the bottom and the number is 62435. I cant work out the year from this.

You might be able to find more expert advice over at Retro Bike. As I'm a member there too, I don't feel I'm being harsh by saying you need a slightly thicker skin when posting there.

Still, there is much knowledge to be had.

Can I ask why you're so keen to know the year of manufacture? Raleigh has a long and at times complex history which makes pinpointing details difficult. I think you may struggle to get any exact information.

Have you checked the hubs and calipers for their serial numbers? Bear in mind that the number you get from them may not be original to the frame. You might also find another frame number on the rear drop out which may help.
