Not full arm V brakes no, as the cable pull is wrong, you can switch to mini-V brakes though, which Raleigh also sell quite cheaply.

As Zoiders, but why?

Cantis, if set up right are good enough in most situations.

If you want to improve your braking, consider getting better brake pads - Koolstops, Swisstop or Fibrax

They look like Oryx brakes. I found with mine the OEM pads were useless so I switched for some decent v-brake cartridge pads. The difference in braking power was like night and day

Yes they are Oryx brakes, in that case I will leave them as they are and buy better pads.
Thanks for the replies

You can buy a full set of Tektro levers and V brakes for under £20

The levers will then have the correct mechanical advantage to operate the V brakes.

...but he'll also need to buy Barcons/DT shift levers, unless I miss my guess? The venture has STi levers, at least on the spec I looked up.

I use Oryx as the front brake on my LHT (levers are Tiagra Road STi).

To improve them I;

1) Junked the Tekro pads for Fibrax Extreme pads.

2) Junked the link wire and installed a proper straddle cable.

3) On my LHT, the straddle is low - the clamp bolt is about level with the bottom headset cup.

If you want to try Mini V brakes, there's a decent guide here.

Ahhh... this Venture is not a flat bar like my old Raleigh Pioneer from the 90s

Modern cantis work very well from what I've seen on the Specialized Tricross, they have to be correctly set up though.

I have a Pioneer Elite of the same vintage :smile: Converted to Vs now.

True - finicky work with STi road levers, ime.
