Is it worth investing in a Dahon Vitesse D8 instead?

Are folding bikes considered safe in general as I have heard horror stories about frames snapping and people narrowly escaping death? heh...
The Dahon is well over my budget but if it's a significant improvement over the Raleigh one I might consider it. I'm mostly interested in quality and safety I just really want a little lightweight compact bike, I'm not going to fold it that terribly often but it's a good option to have.
