If I raise the seatpost on my bike past the maximum mark on the post whats likely to happen?

I'm talking of it being riased only 25mm above the maximum as indicated on the post.

Thanks Nathan

Don't they have a maximum for a reason? I am guessing it could *err*snap which could be messy if there is traffic around for example? Maybe you need a longer one? Or a bigger bike?

Snap the post? Bend the frame?

Either way, you'll end up with a snapped piece of metal stuck up your bottom but you won't care as you'll have lost control in front of a queue of traffic and your last thoughts will be wishing that you'd bought a longer post.

Of course, you could just end up looking like a buffoon for riding a bike which is too small for you, but that wouldn't be nearly as dramatic a way of getting the point across.

as said, wanting to raise the seat that high suggests the bike is seriously too small

Its a short seatpost, may not be the original for the bike.

But you have all answered as I thought anyway.

Already found a longer one in the correct diameter (28mm) so I'm going to order it.

No nasty surprises then 'ey!
