I have just bought a trek 1.2
http://www.trekbikes.com/uk/en/bikes/road/1_series/12e/

I was just about to buy the mudguards cos they're cheap
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/SKS_Commuter_Mudguard/5360035533/

But apparently i have to get the right size or has something or other about dual pivoting brake (???) and i have no idea how to find that out.
So if I could get a little help please.

I'm also looking at some waterproof trousers that fit into a tiny bag. again looking for absolute cheapest. So far thats the mondane featherlite ones at £34.

and any other recommendations for commuting in the rain would be appreciated.

Thanks

Those are for an MTB (26" wheels) - they won't fit your 700c road bike.

You need something like this;

Check there is a Chainstay bridge with a threaded hole.
Chances are Trek don't put one on this model, they don't expect guards to be fitted.

i think you'll need sks raceblades for that, i don't think you've got enough clearance between back tyre and seat tube for proper 'guards.

they should be ok unless you're riding in a group.

Looks like there's one in the picture

A quick google says that guards have definitely been fitted to 2008 versions. Nothing concrete on 2009, but surely the difference is just colourschemes?

Even on here a search reveals a couple of owners: mickwood (09), jay clock (08). Ask them...

Does that bike even have mudguard clearance? Most bikes modelled on race bikes don't. If it does, then, as others have said, you need mudguards for 700c wheels. If not you need raceblades

Keep a towel and dry clothes at work.

Waterproof trousers are really unpleasant to cycle in, and personally I hate mudguards on the bike - they're always getting knocked and rubbing on something, and they make it awkward to put the bike in the back of a car, for example.

Skin is waterproof. Get wet, get to work, get dry, change into dry clothes, sorted.

I keep a full change of clothes and towel at work but I still prefer waterproof trousers to a damp arse when I'm cycling.

How do those raceblades attach? They look like a reasonable option.
