Took out the Jake this morning and did some minor stuff on it... adjusted the brakes, sorted out wheel balance (3m spoke reflectors seemed to be playing a part so I added a couple). I look over in the shed and think "..well I'd better ACTUALLY get around to sorting the tyre/tube out on the Kinesis..."

It had been sat there since the autumn after a puncture... well to be precise it was glass in the dark and wet=puncture, fixed.. thorns=second puncture, fixed... glass in the wet=third puncture, all in the space of less than 2 weeks.

Frustrated I put it in the shed and decided to come back to it later.

I ended up riding an extra 1500 miles in the meantime on the Jake and just forgot. So today out came the sun, and out came the kinesis. Tube FINALLY sorted. Give it the once over turning the bars and theres a click coming from somewhere..? Aint got a clue where or what, even had a little pootle up the road and back to test it and it rides ok apart from the fact the mudguard at the front appears to have shifted.

Don't you just hate those mysterious sounds!?

Mudguard is clicking or a brake cable.

Tell me about it. I can't be sure if its in my head, but I'm sure something is going on with my bottom bracket. Feels like a grinding, fully cleaned and everything is tightened. Must just be me.

Worked it out. Got the bike back out an hour back and its the rear brake cable catching. A little oil on that tomorrow and it should sort I reckon.

..and the tyres still hard.

Quite possibly. Try and flex the cranks and see if theres any play. My LBS said thats sometimes a small indicator. Could just need stripping and greasing.

Best BBs I ever used were the Hope and the 105.

Yeah tell me about noises. The wife comes home from her commute and on a regular basis, tells me that she can hear a noise, not sure what but it's clicking of ticking or something. I spend a while asking questions to try and find the source or if it happens at certain times.

Half the time, I have no idea, it's probably just bike noises, mechanical parts moving. I always check the bike over and take it for a quick spin, and it's usually fine!

Bless her.

On the Jake its funny. If I dont oil the chain it will make noise. Loud enough that I get looks from other riders - even though I know the connex chain to be perfectly sound.

I'll ride the Kinesis into work tomorrow and see how it holds up. Put a little lube on the cables where they enter and exit braze-ons.
