If it's anything like the usual JV phone-ins it will be the usual Hard Pressed Motorist sound off about non tax paying cyclists.

Could make interesting listening.

"Could" make interesting listening, but as it's JV it will be the usual drivel with guests talking over each other and important points being missed. I cannot bring myself to listen to his show any more, even if the subject matter is of some interest. His style of presentation never fails to wind me up. Just play some records, JV!

Having heard the first few minutes, I have to agree.
In honesty I dont usually listen to the drivel, only the music. Looks like I have been making the right choice to blank the correct bits out.

For those who want to listen in iPlayer, it starts about 1hr and 8 minutes into the show

Edit: the lady describing being on the inside of a truck at 1hr 27 is eye watering

My curiosity came out to play and I've popped it on the iplayer:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b012fsyb/Jeremy_Vine_Rebekah_Brooks_resigns/

It is actually worth a listen. As much as I dislike Vine (Blathers on too much for a start, LOL) he's actually come down quite positively on our side with this. He's doing what many of us have asked - he's giving positive instruction about junctions, locks etc.

Simon wassisname is the guest, the Travel writer. So er... well done Vine.

What a turn around.

Vine said in that program that he was anti-cyclist as a ped but then tried cycling and realised we are the only group of road users that face real danger every day.

He seemed very well prepared with a lot of rebuttles and kept the discussion sensible.

Actually quite good.

The best piece of advice was to take primary. They also liked the 'Polite' hi vis jacket.

which obviously fools drivers into thinking it is Police.

The talk of sitting in a truck to see it from a drivers point of view at aprrox 1.30
At the end of the Capital 2 Coast there was a chap from Brighton bus co. doing the same. I sat in that bus & saw just how many blind spots there are - It's actualy very scary!!
I have had numerous near miss's with buses/trucks, and ALL are exactly how the lady on the radio described, not that i'd undercut the bus or been in it's blind spot, but that the bus has come up from behind me then overtaken me, only to attempt to turn left or pull into a bus stop moments later.
I can undertsand that all vehicles have blind spots & that we as cyclists should be aware of this, it is up to us to avoid cycling into these spots.
But Drivers of these large vehicles need to be educated too.

As for the HiVis vest.... Reckon #2 would love one of those!!

Yeah the lady who advocated the polite waistcoat was adamant it was much better safety wise.

And, wow the lady who was cycling with her boyfriend then the truck turned in front of her sent a shiver down my spine. cracked pelvis x2 broken ankle and lower leg degloved
Found it an interesting listen to be fair to Vine.

Ok, having listened to it on i-player, it was much better than I thought it would have been . Apart from Jeremy making the "road tax" comment. And it was all very "city" biased. At least it might have raised awareness among some people about the dangers faced by cyclists, and that has to be good.
