Radical Design Chubby Trailer question

I'm looking at the Radical Design Chubby Trailer but I'm concerned about the metal bit that sticks out. Has anyone ever had a problem checking this in at an airline? I looks like it needs a protective cover or something. I'm surprised Radical Design didn't recess the mount point somehow. I could 3D print something, I suppose.

Any thoughts?

I had a discussion with Radical Design on the issue a few years ago and they said they would look into the problem, but nothing happened. At the time, I returned the Chubby because it did not meet dimensions that Radical Design claimed and it was going over the typical airline limit quite ostensibly. However recently there was some retreat from the airline side in charging for bicycles. Delta at least allows for the packaged bicycle to go over their linear dimension limit, without any special surcharge.
