Howdy,

Have decided to go carless for various reasons and now I'm thinking of fitting a rack to my town bike. It's a steel Dawes Horizon circa 198x, and has mudguards on (so has eyelets at the junction of chain & seat stay). However, there are no eyelets/holes/mounting points nearer the top of the seatstays...

Has anyone got any experience of using P clips to fit a rack and then panniers? My starters for 10 are how easy is it to do it myself (versus taking it to the LBS) and how rigid are P clips? I'm mainly going to the supermarket to do big shop, so expect to carry tins & bottles of various stuff.

Ta!

Fitting P clips is pretty straight forward and should easily cope with the required weight.

You might want to look at the Tubus website though. They have a number of different options for fitting racks to bikes that do not have the required mounting set up that may be stronger.
