Rack with 'clippy thing'!!

Hiya,

I am after a rack for my new bike - lots of choice so no problem there, I can just get whatever will fit - but I really want one like the one I had on my old Raleigh bike from years ago - with a strong 'clippy thing' that lifted up and you could carry things like a lock, a small bag etc underneath it. Do they still make these? Wiggle etc don't seem to have any - the ones I can see are all 'touring' type things for attaching panniers etc.

Do these racks still exist? I used to find it really useful, a lot better than the elastic bungee set that seems to have replaced it.

Any sightings?? ;)

I put an old Raleigh rack of the type you mention on my mtb. Just needed a few minor "tweaks."

I spoke to one of my LBSs (Pedal Revolution, Norwich) about these a couple of months ago when I didn't find them easily online. He had none, whilst he had just ordered a few he said he didn't sell many (he had to look up to see if he had ordered them as wasn't sure he'd bothered)
So in short, they seem less popular so you might need to hunt harder online or see if your LBS will get you one.

Do you have any sort of set up locally that recycles bikes, or sells a lot second hand? You might find an old style rack there and do a deal...? Although I'm sure they are out there still, new...

You can get them in Asda for a tenner - "Bell" branded.

I've put one on Mrs. A's bike, fitted a treat.

Thanks guys, I'll check out those leads. Asda eh? Never knew they had bike stuff....

Wonder why they aren't popular? They were sooooo useful! I once carried a bag of compost home on my bike using only the clippy rack to hold it in place.
